"B" is for Bloated

All we're saying is it's a good thing we joined the Y this year.

The Bs are so numerous that in the time it took us to get through the list, three new "B" restaurants had popped up: Bridge Supper Club, Brocach Irish Pub, and the Burger Joint. We'll go back and tackle them after the Cs are done.

With 60 venues, the Bs are the second largest letter. At 75, the Cs dwarf most others. By the time we reach the Ds, we'll be roughly a quarter of the way through the whole list and should have a firm handle on the Madison dining scene.

Q: Why are the restaurants almost always empty?
A: Maybe we pick off-peak times, but more than one person has suggested it's because there are lots of mediocre places to eat.  You wouldn't know that from the "grades" we give places.

Our grades thus far:
NicholeJM
A 22
41%
17
31%
B 22
41%
30
56%
C 10
18%
5
9%
D 0 2
4%

Why the rampant grade inflation in Nichole's ratings? Maybe she's been unduly influenced by library school. More likely, as Jennifer Saunders (Jennifer) said in Girls On Top: "I sometimes think that if people have bothered to make the programme, then it's only polite for us to watch." Nichole feels the same about food: if they bother to make the meals for me, the least I can do is give them a good grade. JM holds no such preconceptions. By the by, Nichole has given 8 solid A's and JM 5.  We agreed on 3 of these.

The B's were when lost our notebook (aargh) and took just under 6 months to complete. They also brought us plenty of Google traffic apropos of the smut and eggs conversation.

Our favorite Bs were:
Breakfast: Bagels Forever
Lunch: Bahn Thai
Dinner: Bunky's
Dessert: Bluephie's

Don't just take our word for it. Here's what some Madison celebs think (as reported by the Daily Cardinal, who gives you one hit for free and then wants a blood sample to read more).

Finally, a tip for Isthmus: name authority control is a good thing. The Eats database has separate listings for Big Ten Pub and Jordan's Big Ten Pub, which is also listed twice in the printed Annual Manual. PS We love you.
